A Vitalistic Perspective on Health and Life
In order to talk in depth about health we must first define health by its characteristics. We cannot define it by describing what it is not. For example, one cannot define light by describing the characteristics of darkness. Therefore we cannot define health through the qualifications of disease, of the lack thereof. Health is properly defined by the characteristics, or symptoms, one experiences when it is present. The mind of a healthy individual is calm and serene. Concentration and cognition are present in abundance when the mind is in a healthy state. The emotions are stable and the individual experiences a deep-seated ‘knowing’ that everything is well and the Universe is a constant source of support. This ‘knowing’ gives rise to feelings of compassion, trust, respect, love, acceptance, and a heart felt desire to serve others. In turn, the body can only respond to the wellness of the mental and emotional states by functioning in harmony, like a child who thrives in a house where love, respect, and understanding reign.
How do these symptoms of health manifest in the mental, emotional, and physical bodies? The answer to this question is found when one makes the effort to find out what they are and why they exist. Truly speaking, health comes about when the individual turns within and begins the inevitable journey back home. This path that one takes to return to the Source of all Life may also have lessons. So, don’t be mistaken and assume that once you decide to accord yourself with the flow of Life everything becomes instantly easy. Even in your last breath there maybe lessons to be learned. How does one know when they are doing the right thing with this gift we call life? Look for the signs of health in your own life. Do you sleep well and wake refreshed? Are you able to adapt to various situations without becoming annoyed or anxious? Are you filled with gratitude for every new breath you are given? Is your body at ease? When you begin to live an authentic life that is in accordance with your higher Self you will begin to feel an ease and a sense of well being that will invigorate your body, calm your mind, and put a sparkle in your eye.
Presence is your most powerful gift. Anything that is fulfilling or joyful is so because of the level of Presence. The stream of consciousness that has been flowing from you, since before you were born, gives life to everything you experience. This stream of consciousness is unbreakable. It has never been interrupted even once since you were born. It flows into the different states of being (waking, dreaming, deep sleep, meditative) that you experience, but the flow never stops. The reason this is your most powerful gift is because it is infinitely full of potential and it is the essence of what you are. The more presence you can bring into your life situations, the more satisfaction you will derive from them. It doesn’t matter what you do, but how present you are when doing it. Have you ever wondered why negative emotions and a restless mind can cause you so much trouble? It is because you are breathing your most powerful gift, Presence, into entities that are not worthy of such divinity. Your Presence will shower you with joy and contentment when you direct it towards your higher purpose in life. Health is the product of living in accordance with your Soul. If you strive to realize that your time here is short and your true nature is eternal, things will be put into proper perspective. Quarreling, anger, anxiety, grief, jealousy, self-doubt, malice, judgment, and fear are petty and not worthy of your Presence. If you breathe life into any of these lower qualities they will become the noose of suffering from which you will hang until you let them go.
This brings us to disease. It can be stated with certainty that disease, as a Universal manifestation, is corrective in nature. There is no malice or ill will in the occurrence of disease. It is a natural process like the rising and setting of the sun. Disease plays a role in one’s life as a lesson that will continue to manifest at every opportunity until the lesson is learned. Disease, therefore, can be thought of as a dissonant frequency in relation to the resonant frequency of the living principle within. This dissonant, essentially non-human, frequency is delusional when compared to the living reality of life. It acts as a filter that colors and perverts the individual’s perception of life, others, and themselves. This delusion is very subtle and it pervades the mind, emotions, and physical body of the individual. It stirs up disharmony and agitation, and sets the stage for suffering. One can study the morbidity and mortality of every disease under the sun, but the fact is that every birth ends in death. If one begins to grasp this concept they have taken one step closer to understanding disease in relation to health.
So how does one go about reclaiming their Presence? The benevolence of the Universe has afforded us many ways. Let it first be said that, you can never separate yourself from your Self. What you are trying to reclaim is something you already possess, but because of delusion you perceive otherwise. You are what you are searching for and you will surely find yourself. Meditation, developing the art of listening to your heart, and homeopathy are three powerful tools one can use to overcome their own delusion. The power of meditation lies in the fact that it is the only activity you can engage in where the Soul is striving to know itself through a direct experience. The power of listening to your own heart is experienced in cultivating trust and the stillness to hear your own Soul speak to you. The power of homeopathy is found in its ability to reach the root cause of disease. Unlike any other medicine, homeopathy holds the promise of freeing the individual from their particular delusion so the life lessons are more easily learned and the Soul can continue to unfold.
It can be stated in closing that every being that walks this earth will find their way Home. Like waves falling back into the ocean or clouds vanishing into the vastness of the sky, the inevitability of reunion pervades all forms. What you do with the time between now and then is a matter of choice, and like the present moment, choice is eternal.
